It's October, and that can only mean one thing.

Early October in Vermont.

No, not that thing. Or that one. Nope, not that one, either.

To be fair, it’s been quite a week. There have been a lot of things.

October means it’s six months until publication day for The Addiction Inoculation: Raising Healthy Kids in a Culture of Dependence!

The Addiction Inoculation is so much more than book I imagined I’d write back when I proposed it to my editor. I proposed to write the book I wanted but could not find, a straightforward how-to that would translate the research on correlation, causation, and effective, evidence-based prevention of childhood substance abuse.

But once I got started, The Addiction Inoculation demanded to be so much more.

It’s the story of my first drink and why I took it. It’s the story of the girl who encouraged me to take that first drink and never emerged from the bottle. It’s the story of an anxiety-ridden girl who snuck drinks of liquor while I taught her about poetry and grammar, who dropped out before graduation, went to prison, lost custody of her child, and managed to rescue herself. It’s the story of a boy who yearned for acceptance from his drug-abusing peers even as his real friends did everything they could to save him. It’s the story of the day my father said the words that sent me to my first recovery meeting and everything I’ve done to stay sober since then. It’s the story of my efforts to inoculate my children from the addictions of our ancestors.

The Addiction Inoculation: Raising Healthy Kids in a Culture of Dependence is the story of how we keep kids healthy, whole, and alive.

I will be releasing exclusive bonus content, excerpts, and some pre-pub goodies you won’t want to miss, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, I would be so grateful if you could do one or all of these things:

  1. Pre-order The Addiction Inoculation now. Pre-orders drive retailer expectations and supply, and I can’t overstate how important they are to the success of a book. You can order via your local independent bookseller or Bookshop.org, Apple, Barnes and Noble, or at Amazon.

  2. If you’d like to reserve a signed copy to be shipped to you when the book comes out, you can order it here, via Phoenix Books. Make sure you indicate in the comment space provided in the final step of ordering that you’d like your book signed.

  3. Mark The Addiction Inoculation to-read at Goodreads!

  4. If you are a reviewer, journalist, or otherwise want to cover the book in the media, you can request to read the book early here, at NetGalley.

Thank you, dear readers, for taking this journey with me.
